ABOUT PAINT PROTECTION FILM
Paint protection film (PPF) is a thermoplastic urethane self-healing film applied to painted surfaces of a new or used car to shield the paint from stone chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions. Paint safety film is a licensed OEM by nearly all automakers. We carry two high-quality brands STEK and Xpel PPF at Stockyard Detailing. Both have proved to be 2 of the best companies in the industry, and continue to prove themselves.
All Paint Safety Packages have a full list on the outside. Then we bar the area being applied with PPF to ensure that the surface is clean and dirt-free. Unlike many shops that only add the film to the edges, usually leaving the acute edges bare and exposed, we wrap all possible edges to ensure that everybody panel angle is covered and secured against the elements. By washing the car and applying a 6-month spray-on sealant, we finish it off. We stand by our work and inspect every job you get to pick up to make sure you're satisfied with our work.
WHAT IS USED TO MAKE PAINT PROTECTION FILM? THE TECHNOLOGY BEHIND CLEAR BRA
If you're going to tie something around your fine new car, you're going to want to know not just where it came from but exactly what it is. Let's talk a bit more about what is inside a Paint Safety Film cover. The key ingredient is urethane, a potent and flexible polymer made of carbamate connections. It has unique attributes as a compound: It is lightweight and translucent, like rubber. But it is not fragile or vulnerable to tears and cracks as compared to plastic. It possesses a high impact, abrasion and corrosion resistance. It is also incredibly flexible, and after being stretched or disfigured, will return to its natural shape.
It has a wide variety of industrial and recreational uses due to the versatile and beneficial properties of the polymer. Urethane is used in the household caulk with which you line your bathroom tiles because it seals moisture gaps and prevents mildew or fungus from developing. Coating boats and underwater cables can also be found so as to prevent damage. It is used in different parts of the sports equipment, from football pads to surfboard fins. The strength and wear and tear resistance make it an ideal part of the fabrication and mining equipment. As previously mentioned, urethane is still used to cover different parts of military and aerospace equipment.
Urethane as a pigment is commonly used, but today we're talking about your car and urethane acts as a key component for your vehicle in a translucent film about 8 miles (0.008 inches) thick.
A standard Paint Protection Film has at least two other layers in addition to the main layer consisting of urethane (or polyurethane). Next, the top is filled with elastomeric polymers made of a clear coat. As we have already mentioned, this is the aspect that helps a good film to repair itself from small scratches. But they do a lot more. The clear coat on a good film will have low surface energy which prevents the bonding with the film of organic compounds, such as bugs or bird droppings.
Furthermore, the bottom is coated with an acrylic adhesive built to be versatile, so that it can be extended and wrapped around every contour or the vehicle; strong, so that the film doesn't break over time; and invisible, so that it doesn't impact the paint's look.
Xpel Ultimate PPF paint safety film is a transparent, clear polyurethane thermoplastic film designed to protect the finish of a vehicle from damage caused by stone chips, road debris, insect stains, small to medium bruises, chemical stains and weathering without damaging the original paint colour. The top coat is "self-healing," which allows small scratches in the film to vanish when film is exposed to heat at room temperature and medium scratches.
The product is designed for the purposes of vehicle painting and painted surface protection and is easy to measure during application by manual cutting. In addition to the pre-existing and applied Xpel Ultimate PPF Supreme Wrapping Film, Xpel Ultimate PPF can also be added. Wet application method should be used to add content.
Top-coating - increases the resistance to external damages
"Self-healing" - tiny scratches in the film, which will vanish when film is exposed to heat in room temperature and medium scratches.
Up to 10 years protection - maintaining the quality of vehicle finish
Optical clarity & High gloss finish - enhancing the look of vehicle
Allows application to slightly curved surfaces
Protection of the highly sensitive external surfaces of vehicle like; bumper, side mirrors, hood, wheel arches
Protection of internal surfaces like, luggage racks or chairs in busses or trains
Surface security in high traffic areas such as, reception desks, door-impact zones, wall panels and more
Actual performance life may depend on the preparation of the substratum, the conditions of exposure and the marking maintenance. In the case of signs facing south, for example; in areas with long high temperature exposure, in industrially polluted areas or high altitudes, outdoor output will be decreased.
