WHAT IS A PPF / VINYL WRAP?
Both Clear Paint Protective Film (PPF) and Vinyl Wraps (color change) are films that are used to paint on top of your cars. PPF is a transparent polyurethane film usually about 8miles thick (including adhesive) to protect the paint against rock chips, bugs, debris etc. It should be invisible if installed correctly! Now the PPF has a Self-healing topcoat that protects the film from light scratches; you can literally take a wire brush to the film, scratch it, add a little heat from a hairdryer and watch the scratches vanish. Which means you will never again have to clean this panel out!
Nonetheless, vinyl wraps are just amazing! It seems there are endless numbers of colors to choose from! Now the thickness is about 3 milimeters, which means it won't give you the maximum protection as compared to PPF. The film will take the damage from light scratches and small rocks but this is more of a cosmetic solution for the most part. We have some of our working cars covered in vinyl and the front ends are pretty chipped up, which is the usual case here in the San Francisco Bay Area.
In California, you're lucky to get more than a few years out of a vinyl Wrap. That can vary depending on if it's parked outside or IN a garage.
Generally, you will get a 5-10 year manufacturer warranty with PPF that covers yellowing, cracking, fading, staining, and delaminating. We've had great success both with Xpel Ultimate and Suntek Ultra, both of which come with a 10-year guarantee. We’ve seen installations completed over 10 years ago and they still look good, not to mention the films keep improving year after year!
All PPF and vinyl wraps are excellent, depending on what you want most, security or appearance.
HOW DO I PROTECT PPF & VINYL?
Ceramic Pro PPF & Vinyl is a clear, multi-layer, nano-ceramic liquid coating that transforms itself on the surface into a smooth, flexible glass shield when it is cured. The coating forms a chemical bond with the film which allows the filling of all empty pores on the surface, creating a brand new protective layer. The new Ceramic Pro was fully reengineered to combine with PPF (Paint Protection Film) and Vinyl Wraps. A base coat and a topcoat are used for the full Ceramic Pro PPF & Vinyl safety scheme. The base coat is Ceramic Pro PPF & Vinyl. Instead, this is coated with PPF & Vinyl Bottom. The final coating is slightly softer than the initial protective base coat. It allows higher gloss and a deep-wet feel. With the added slickness of the coated surface, pollutants like bugs, dirt, and tar are less likely to cling to the coating of your vehicle, making activities such as washing the applied areas less labor-intensive and less frequent.
The coating can help prevent the etching process from contaminants such as bird droppings and tree sap, or substantially slow it down. This will give the car owner time to remove the contaminant before permanent damage is done. Apart from preventing pollutants from reaching the porous surface, the UV Protection associated with the coating can improve the durability of the film by reducing the yellowing phase. This provides an extended period of clearer film. It protects against pollution and weathering which results in a film which is much easier to clean. It also helps to reduce the appearance of the orange peel on the vinyl.
